MineRoyale.io Roadmap and Future Plans

Big Plans

I have some big plans for the future of MineRoyale.io. I will share them with you here. I can't guarantee that I will be implementing these features any time soon, but I will share them anyway!

Accounts and Stats

This is a feature that I'm excited to add, but will take some time. I'm considering two options for this: Either sign in with Google account, or sign in with a Discord account. I really like the Discord option because it would mean I can give people special roles on my Discord server for getting special achievements, and everyone will be able to see who the really good players are, assuming they connect the game to their Discord account.

Another thing that can come from the Discord login is that I can make a Discord bot to easily show your stats in the game!

Duos and Squads

Duos and squads are obviously a great feature for any royale game. This is the hardest feature on this list to implement. I'm not sure if I know how with my current setup. It will be on my radar eventually, but not now.

More weapons and Items

This is one feature that I'm torn about. I want to keep adding new items and features, but I'm worried that this will make it harder to navigate your inventory. One possible solution is to let you drop items, but I'm not sure I like that so much as well, because every item that I currently have in the game is valuable in its own way. Another idea is that you could have a single "special" slot reserved for items that are rare, but have special abilities. Here are a few "special items" that I am thinking about:

Grappling hook: An item that can pull you quickly towards walls, or hook players and pull them towards you/pull you towards them. This item was inspired by a Minecraft Hunger Games kit which I really enjoyed. As you grapple further, it would increase your velocity, making it valuable to throw your hook far away.

Trap: An item that is not visible but pops up and makes movement extremely slow when a player walks over it. I want to introduce a sort of "camping" dimension to the game where players can set something up and wait for others to fall into their trap. Let me know if you have other trap ideas.

Invisibility item: Not neccessarily invisibility, but something that makes you less noticeable when you would normally be in plain sight, like for example, morphing your player into what looks almost like a block.

Crates and mini in-game events

One thing I want to add is crates that drop loot. I am thinking about treating important crate drops as events that are announced during the game, with a location displayed on the map. Important crates could drop things like gold/diamond gear, meaning you can simply skip the upgrades for those items.

Game modes

I want to add additional game modes, but I don't want to do this until I have more players. Maybe, instead of calling them new game modes, I will simply make a brand new game which is derived from MineRoyale.io, but has a different goal and some unique features, with mining and fighting still at it's core. One such idea is a free-for-all game mode, which would be similar to a normal survival world in Minecraft. You could explore caves in an almost endless world, but always with the possibility of encountering other people and fighting. I could either have a more simple option, where you lose your items when you log out, or a more revolutionary approach in .io games where you can save your items and log in with an account to regain them. Maybe there could even be chests, so that you can store your items and people can raid each other. Basically, a further extension of Minecraft into the .io game world.

Tournaments

This is an idea that excites me, when there is a bigger community playing and I have accounts set up. I could host a single game tournament, with some sort of prize for the winner. I'm not sure exactly how many people I can load into a single server, but I think a server could handle 200-300 players with a huge map, based on some tests that I did with bots. That would be an epic event to host.

Another tournament option, once I set up accounts, is to create week-long challenges, which can be monitored with a leaderboard and which can have prizes at the end. Here are some a examples:

A weeklong challenge: get the most kills in one game without mining any blocks

A weeklong challenge: get the most kills in one game without upgrading any weapons or armor

The list could go on, but you get the point. These challenges would make it more engaging for everyone to play, when they are all going for a similar goal. Let me know if you have other ideas for tournaments!
